Shimano Nexus 3-speed hub with twist shifter

The gears are sealed inside the rear hub and, therefore, well protected from dirt and rain. You change gears using a microSHIFT twist shifter on the handlebars either while cycling or when stationary – for example, to shift to a lighter gear while waiting at a traffic light.

Coaster brake and V-brake

You brake at the rear by pedalling backwards; at the front, there is a V-brake operated by a hand lever. This is a familiar, simple combination that requires little maintenance.

Battery-free lights

The ECE-approved front and rear lights do not use batteries, so you never need to replace or recharge them. Reflective strips on the tyres and pedals increase your visibility in the dark.

Closed chain guard

The chain guard completely encloses the chain to protect it against dirt and rain and keep your trouser legs clean.

Who is this bike for?

• Riders looking for a classic looking, fully-equipped city bike that comes with a front rack, lock, bell and lights already fitted.
• Riders who mainly cycle on flat to gently sloping terrain and do not need more than 3 gears.

When to consider a different model?

• If you frequently cycle up steep hills or want more gear options, you may want to consider getting a city bike with more gears or an electric bike.

• With a Nexus hub, it is best to shift gears while pedalling gently, without too much pressure; this is better for the hub and makes gear changes smoother.
• Practise using the coaster (or back-pedal) brake on a quiet, flat road first, so that you get used to how it feels.
• Check your tyre pressure regularly; the right tyre pressure improves comfort and helps prevent punctures.
• Have the brakes and lights checked annually by a professional bike mechanic, especially if you use your bike every day.
